This year 2024, India’s 75th Republic Day has been celebrated. French President Emmanuel Macron is the chief guest for the year 2024. On this day in 1950, the Constitution of India was implemented by removing the Government of India Act (1935). It is one of the three national holidays of India, named after the author of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

It was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949 and implemented on 26 January 1950 to become an independent republic and establish the rule of law in the country. The date of 26th January was chosen for its implementation because on this day in 1930, Bharati was declared Purna Swaraj.

On this day every Indian pays tribute to the immortal sons who sacrificed their lives for their country. The President addresses the nation on the eve of Republic Day. Many programs are organized in schools, colleges etc. The President of India hoists the Indian flag at Rajpath in Delhi.

Many attractive and fascinating programs are organized in the capital Delhi. Delhi is well decorated and a parade takes place with great pomp and show on Kartavyapath in which there are tableaux of various states and government departments. People from every corner of the country come to Delhi to watch the 26 January parade. Indian Army weapons are displayed. On 26th January, the President’s procession is taken out with great pomp and show and many interesting programs are organised.

About the past history of India.

In December 1929, the Indian National Conference was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in which a resolution was passed declaring that if the British Government does not grant Dominion status to India by 26 January. 1930, under which India became a self-governing unit under the British Empire. On that day it declared its resolve for complete independence of India and started its active movement. From that day till independence in 1947, 26 January was celebrated as Independence Day. After this, the actual day of independence, 15 August, was accepted as the Independence Day of India. After India became independent, the Constituent Assembly was proclaimed and it began its work on 9 December 1946.
